Get Out! Back Porch Season Arrives in Dallas

I come from a back porch kind of family. The back porch and back yard of my home growing up was our family’s most utilized space. It served as a dining room, living room, kitchen and bathroom. Okay, well the yard was a bathroom only for our dog Chica, but still, my point is that our back porch was more than a back porch –  it was an outdoor room.

Our family, it seems, is not unique in our propensity to spend time together outdoors. “People are living outdoors more than ever,” says Vicki Caldwell, Showroom Manager at Brown Jordan’s Dallas showroom.

The concept of an “outdoor room” has really taken hold in the past few years as more homeowners invest in their outdoor areas, creating spaces for entertaining, cooking, relaxing and family fun, year-round. HGTV has dedicated an entire show to this topic. Get Out, Way Out  focuses on making over homeowners’ outdoor spaces into incredible living areas.

With more time being spent in outdoor spaces, people have come to expect more out of their outdoor furniture. “People expect their outdoor furniture to be just as comfortable, beautiful and durable as their interior furnishings,” Caldwell says.

That is just what Brown Jordan’s new Papillon collection offers. A top seller in the Dallas market, Papillon offers a fluid, contemporary take on woven furnishings. Designed by Michael Berman for Brown Jordan, Papillon is curvilinear, textural and cocoon-like in shape, with a subtle wing detail. Berman was inspired by the free spirit and individuality of the papillon (the French word for butterfly) – its beauty, grace, life of transformation and quiet harmony with nature.

Papillon’s simplicity offers deep, comfortable seating with a soft silhouette. “It is truly one of our most comfortable offerings,” Caldwall says. “The cushions are plush, but not overstuffed. They’re the perfect size. I could just lounge in it all day!”

In addition to several comfortable seating options, Papillon offers a nice selection of occasional and coffee tables. “While the collection as a whole has been extremely popular, we’ve also seen many people adding the Papillon tables onto their orders,” Caldwell told me. “The tables are woven, drum-shaped and available in muted tones. They match well with many of the other Brown Jordan collections that come in metal and wood.”

Papillon is one of the many collections now marked down in Brown Jordan’s annual special savings event. Now through April 5, 2012 Brown Jordan is offering an additional 10 percent off special trade pricing.
